Imagine someone coming to you thirsty.  I mean really thirsty.  They have struggled without water for days.  They are on the brink of death.

'Water.  I need Water.  Please anyone have any water?'

You are a good person.  You will give this thirsty person a glass of water.  You will hand it to them.  You will watch them suck the water down.  You will refill the glass and give them a second.  You will help them until they are satisfied.

What would you do if you didn't have a glass?  Or a cup? Or a mug? What if you had no way to take the water you had so in handing it to them they could drink?

Northside Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is just a glass.  We are a glass that God through Jesus uses to give water, living water, to the world.

The glass is not the water.  The glass is not what the thirsty world needs.  The thirsty world needs water, living water, Spirit, God-but without the glass, without the church, God cannot give to the world what the world needs.

People want to be spiritual without being religious.  We get that here.  We understand.  But we also understand that religion is a vessel that provides access to the Eternal Love of God. 

Religion is not the point.  Spirit is the point.  But without religion Spirit is hard to share. 

Overtime the church forgot that it was not the point.  The church started giving people religion without Spirit.  The glass without the water.

It is no wonder that people have fled the church.  They want water not shards of glass. They want Spirit not religion. 

They want Love not Rules. The want Way not wrong.  They want life not doctrine.

We get that here. 

Northside is a growing sacred community that works hard to be a vessel of God's Eternal Love to all people.

We really mean all people.  Not most people and not what a lot of places mean when they say all. 

When they say 'all' they mean this.

'You are welcome here but before you become a member you need to be more like us.'  Or 'you are welcome here, you can even be a member, but because of what you believe or how you live, you can never be entrusted with leadership.' 

To join Northside all you need is to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.  That is it. 

In joining you are standing before the church asking for their love, as you are, and promising to love them back, as they are.

This is hard to do.  But with Jesus' help it is possible. 

We prove that here.

We hope Northside is the sacred community God has sent you searching for and that our invitation to you to join us is a blessing.

On Going Missions

 

Sunnybrook Supper and Food Pantry

Supper: Second Wednesday of each month.

Food Pantry: First and Third Tuesday of each month.

 

Volunteer Ministry Center Breakfast

For early Risers or Bakers we will be cooking breakfast at the VMC

Baked goods need to be at church on Thursday so we can pick them up Friday morning.

 

Fountain City Ministry Center

The FCMC is a food and clothing pantry supported by 11 local Fountain City Churches.

The FCMC is basically awesome and completely run by volunteers.  The FCMC is always thankful for help.
