Life and Prayers

This page is devoted to the ongoing life of Northside and the many wonderful things we have to pray about and the many things we need too pray about.

7/28/10: i received a letter from a Disciple's church in Ohio. Ruth Enzelmo has transferred her membership.  We celebrate with Ruth on this next phase of her life journey. All blessings upon her and her new (old) church home.

update: Jim is rcovering very well from his leg surgery.

7/28/10: Bobbie Proffitt's sister, Ruth, has had good news.  Her brain tumour has calcified and no immideate threat to her.  She will watch it from time to time but otherwise is free of worry.

5/6/10: Christian Church in TN:  Disciples have been effected by the flooding in Nashville.  I know that Woodmont Christian Church has had their basement, which houses the christian ed ministry, flooded.  Also, the regional office has flooded and the water rose to 33 inches.  Though, as a church we are not to be confused with the buildings we occupy there were personal artifacts that housed precious memories that have been lost.  Be patient with the regional office if you try to contact them as they deal with the crises.

5/5/10: Betty Denio is in Fort Sanders Regional recovering from a heart attack caused by Pneumia. She is doing great and is in Cardiac rehab.

4/20/10: Diane Cook is having surgery to remove her thyroid on Wednesday the 21st at Fort Sanders Regional.

4/26/10 update: Diane has been released from the doctor's care and will go back to work next week.

4/19/10: Herbert Jared is having a full GI Tract scope Monday April 26th in order to determine if it is through his GI Tract that he is losing blood.  I saw both he and Gwen today and shared communion with them.  Thanks be to God!

3/25/10: Jan Rose is recovering well after sucesful knee replacement surgery.  She is in Mercy downtown.

update: 3/29/10. Jan is doing as one would expect after knee replacement. She is in pain but positive.   She is staying at least one week in NHC Farragut.

4/12/10: Jan is home and working with outpatient rehab.  She is feeling better and hopeful the knee surgery will improve her mobility.

4/26/10: Jan is continuing to feel better and hopeful to be able to come to worship next Sunday.

3/25/10: Ruth Anzelmo has been hospitalized due to illness related to high heat rate.  She is in Mercy North.

Update 3/29/10/ Ruth is not doing well. As of yesterday afternoon the ventilator was breathing for her completely.  Her heart is very week and beating much to little to sustain her if taken off the ventilator.  It is possible that her organs are shutting down.  I really don't know what is causing her body such distress.  Her sister, Nancy, flew in last night and decisions about Ruth's care will be made by her.

4/12/10: Ruth was in church Sunday. Truly we are blessed that she has recovered so well and so quickly.

3/13/10: David Weltner is continuing his treatment for cancer and is almost through with the hard part of Stem Cell Replacement.

Update 4/12/10: David was in church on Easter and looking no worse than he normally does.  He sported a fine looking hat to cover his nearly bald head.  Hair is coming back.

1/26/10:Jerry Rose made it through surgery fine.  He was still in recovery at 6 pm when I left the hospital but was doing fine.  Chrissy was planning on spending the night and Jan was going home to rest.  A long day.

update 1/27/10: Jerry is doing fine.  He is alert, not in great discomfort and expected to stay in the hospital until Friday.  He needs to see his oncologist next week to get the results of the biopsy and future plans.

update:Jerry is undergoing radiation and doing well.

update 4/12/10: Jerry has finished his radiation and feeling positive.

1/25/10: Jerry Rose is to have surgery on the 26th to remove tumors in the lymphs surrounding his groin.  At the present the cancer's origin is not known.  Jerry is expected to have radiation after the surgery.

1/25/10:  We can celebrate the birth of a great grandchild, Cade,  to John and Georgia Farr.

1/16/20: Ed Bowen had back surgery yesterday.  He is recovering at Fort Sanders.  He is expected to be there several days.

Update 1/26/10: Ed is recovering at home and doing well.  It will still be some time before he is back to his old self.

1/15/10: It doesn't need to be said but we all need to be in prayer for Haiti.  Such a tragic situation.  A nation so close to our own with such an overabundance of material wealth struggling on a daily basis to survive-and now this.  Dear God.  I can say with great gratitude that the Christian Church in TN mission trip to Haiti has checked in and they are all safe.  Also, safe are the overseas missionaries and many of our local church partners.  This blessing highlights even more the tragedy for those who have not been so lucky.  I pray that we find the resources to help this nation through this tragedy but also the will to help them create a just and sustainable society.

1/11/10: Lots of stuff to mention.  Jerry Rose and his appointments to diagnose his cancer he discovered just before Christmas.  Jan Rose might be looking at knee replacement surgery.  Evelyn Savery received a pace maker this past week.  Perhaps this will solve the problem she has had with fainting and falling.  Ailene Turner is continuing to loss her eyesight. This coupled with her age and weakness has made her all but home bound.

11/6/09: Of course we have heard the news of the Ft Hood Massacre and it breaks our hearts.  Regardless of our view on the wars our soldiers are fighting they deserve a break from the insane stress of warfare on themselves and their families.  I am sorry the complicated reality of these wars has been brought home to them in such a devastating way.  Prayers to the families and the wounded and also, because of the even more insane love of God, to the suspect. May all our hearts be healed of this madness.

11/4/09: Virginia Barnhart, a good friend and irregular visitor to Northside, has been diagnosed with a resurgence of Uterine cancer.   The cancer has spread and appears non-operatable.  Our prayers to Virgina, her children Kim and Greg and the family.

Update: We mourn the loss of Virginia after such a short illness.  Our prayers go out to Greg and his family.

11/2/09: Lee Acuff's niece, Stevie Shay, was hospitalized over the weekend.  She is home and is awaiting test results.

10/29/09: I am sad to inform all that Marti Hulen's brother in law and also Ray and Betty Acuff's nephew, Sam Talbott, has passed away from complications with cancer.  He was much to young.  may our combined prayers offer some peace to Marti's sister and the whole family. Receiving of Friends will be 5-7 at Griffy's with a service at 7 on Sunday.

10/25/09 Cindy Bewley, Jan Connell's daughter, was hospitalized Sunday morning due to severe seizures.   She was placed in ICU Trauma at Erlanger in Chattanooga.

update 10/28/09: Cindy was released yesterday and returned home.  Jan and Jim returned home late last night.  This is great news.  Praise God.

update: Cindy has the breathing tube out and is much more comfortable and fully aware.  Her sodium levels, which may have caused the siezure, are rising to a safe level.  Jan is hopeful Cindy wll be moved to a room today.  Keep praying.

10/21/09 Erin Tankersly's father is going to have heart bypass this week.

The Murray family need our prayers. Herb is in a nursing home with dementia. Gwen is home by herself. Jack had quadruple bypass surgery and hopefully will be going home this week.
